Job Description

We are currently seeking an XSLT Specialist with the ability to work effectively from their own environment, usually remotely but occasionally with the team in our office in Vancouver or Victoria, or with us and our customers in Vancouver.

 

As the XSLT expert in the company, you will play a key role in driving how the Avato platform leverages W3C-related technologies, and will help steer how the platform provides leading-edge facilities to XML-oriented developers like yourself.

 

This is a ground floor opportunity; you’ll join our team as one of the first 10 “Avato’s” while the company grows from its first commercial deployments to scale-up giant killer. You will work directly with our Chief Architect and CEO, and will participate in mentoring and being mentored in the development of successful mission critical projects for high-profile government, healthcare and banking customers.

 

In this role, you’ll work to fulfill the effectiveness of our customers’ teams of developers, utilizing leading-edge technology stacks like Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, AWS and Google Cloud, with the opportunity to make a major difference in the fields of application integration and digital transformation.

 

Responsibilities of the role include:

• Writing and maintaining XSLT transforms that define integration transformations and orchestrations
• Writing XSLT transforms using SaxonJS that convert XML and JSON into HTML5
• Creating SVG graphics and then converting them to XSLT transforms that show live data in the Avato user interface
• Creating and maintaining transforms from SOAP to REST, XML to JSON, and XML-based parsers that read and write text-oriented and binary information streams
• Writing AsciiDoc technical documentation and maintaining conversions to Docbook XML
• Developing XSLT training materials, tutorials and training courses for Avato staff and customers

 

Who Are You?

 

You are a seasoned XML/XSLT developer, who has spent considerable time using XSLT as a data transformation language. You like the idea of XML being human-readable, and how it is the basis for XML, SVG, SOAP and other web-friendly protocols. You love that it’s a declarative language, supported by functional programming models, and recognize the strength of such W3C recommendations in overcoming data conversion and transformation challenges of any magnitude.

 

You’ve worked on major data conversion, transformation or publication projects, and have always felt that you can simply do more with XML and XSLT, and have imagined what it would be like if you simply had better tools.

You are comfortable with meeting with our customers when needed, and can help build training courses around XSLT. You enjoy both learning from and sharing knowledge with customers and team members inside the company alike. Fundamentally, you believe that the team’s success is your success.

Skills:

• 5+ years of experience in solutions based on XML, XPath, XSD and XSLT
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong technical writing skills
• Experience with XSLT 2.0 and 3.0
• Experience with XQuery
• Experience with Saxon, including SaxonJS
• Experience with SOAP, WSDL and related WS- protocols
• Experience with Docbook XML
• Understanding of the current state of W3C recommendations and best practices
